Vacancy – Criminal Code Revision Project Director

This full time career service position is located in the Sentencing and Criminal Code Revision Commission (SCCRC). The District of Columbia Sentencing and Criminal Code Revision Commission (formerly the Advisory Commission on Sentencing) recommends sentencing and corrections policy to the D. C. Council. SCCRC develops and implements sentencing guidelines used by judges in felony cases in the Superior Court in the District of Columbia; monitors compliance with the guidelines, and evaluates reasons for authorized and unauthorized departure; provides training to judges and practitioners on guideline application; and conducts research on sentencing
in the Superior Court. In addition, SCCRC is responsible for reform of the Criminal Code to create a uniform and coherent body of criminal laws in the District of Columbia.
This position description depicts the generalized duties and responsibilities of an Attorney-Advisor, responsible for providing proficient legal advice to the Commission in the area of criminal prosecution/criminal sentencing, and specifically in the revision of the DC Criminal Code. As a recognized authority in the criminal sentencing field, incumbent serves as a consultant and advisor to Commission members and other top-level officials, and occasionally may be called on to provide authoritative professional and policy advice.
